How to turn your life around when you come from an abusive family

Abusive families come in many shapes and forms. It's not always the drug-addict, criminal, promiscuous, negligent, or physically abusive kind. Those are just easier to recognize. Mental and emotional abuse is just as much traumatizing, but gets less attention and therefore it's harder to realize that you might be a victim.

The appearance of families can be so misleading. From the outside, they can look totally normal, privileged even. And maybe the parents meet all the "requirements" of being a good parent, as in providing a safe home, food, education, etc. They may even spoil the children and buy them whatever they want. And people actually say: "What a lucky, privileged kid!" And that is so harmful, because that is the main reason why so many financially spoiled and emotionally abused children are

(There was an abusive, clueless mother on Dr. Phil once, who didn't know what to do about her spoiled teenage daughter. And Dr. Phil put it very simply: "You give her more love and less money."  -  and I thought that was brilliant, because with it's simplicity, it showed how obvious the answer was.)
