Mouse pad for sofa armrest

I came up with this DIY because we use our laptops on the sofa a lot and because our sofa has a round armrest, the mouse kept sliding off of it. You can customize this mouse pad completely, and you can also use it as a little table or cup holder on your couch. A big advantage is that you can adjust its position on the armrest and when you don't need it, you can easily remove it and put it away.

What you'll need:

  • foam board
  • x-acto knife
  • cutting board
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • glue
  • contact paper (in your choice of color)

How to make it:

  • Measure out the size you want your mouse pad to be. Measure the pieces of foam board (one horizontal piece, two equal sides and two smaller pieces for the edges), and then cut them out with an x-acto knife on a cutting board.
  • Glue the large pieces together in a U shape. If you add a long L-shaped piece of foam board to each side where the larger pieces join, that will make the structure more stirdy. You can use leftover pieces for this since they are not going to be visible.
  • Flip the table over and glue two smaller pieces of foam board to the top of a long and a short side. These will prevent stuff from falling off the table.
  • When you're ready with the assembling, cover the whole thing with contact paper. Choose one that is waterproof and allows the mouse to move smoothly.
  • Slide the mouse pad onto the armrest and you're done!
