Dream catcher

What you'll need:

  • a metal or wooden hoop
  • colorful yarn, satin or lace ribbons and/or leather strips
  • feathers
  • beads/charms
  • (needle and thread)

How to make it:

The hoop

  • First of all, plan the layout of your dream catcher. This way, you can see ahead if its going to look the way you want it to. Take a picture of it as well, so you can reference it while you're working.

  • Tie the yarn to the hoop and start wrapping it around. Keep the yarn taut, and try to keep the layer even. This will take a while, but the thicker yarn you use, the quicker it will go.

  • Leave a long piece of yarn at the end, so you can make a hanger later.

  • Take another piece of yarn and start wrapping it around the hoop loosely, as shown in the picture. It's important that this piece of yarn is long enough (best if it's a whole ball) because this will make up the inside of the dream catcher. While making this part, thread the beads/other decorations, following your plan.

  • Wrap the next round of yarn pulling it through the previous loops, and keep doing this until you get to the middle.

  • At this point, pull the yarn upwards so the inside of the dream catcher becomes tight and make a knot to secure it.

  • Make a hanger out of the piece of yarn that you left on the top of the hoop. You can also put beads on the hanger.

The hanging part

  • Following your plan, tie the feathers to the end of the ribbons, or leather strips and then thread the beads on and secure them with knots at the height you want.

  • The easiest way to tie the feathers to the ribbons/leather strips is to place them on each other overlapping, wrap a piece of yarn around them and tie a knot. You can put some beads directly above the feathers as well. If the shaft of the feather fits into the beads, push the beads onto them, this way they'll be more secure.

  • If you want to add beads or feathers on lace ribbons, you can glue, or sew them on.

  • Tie the hanging parts to the hoop and cut off the excess ribbon. Hang up your dream catcher and you're done!:)
